The best Vegan Food in Copenhagen
Denmark doesn’t necessarily have a reputation as an extremely vegan-friendly country, but the capital, as hip and modern as it is, of course caters to its vegan residents and visitors…and does a good job of it too! While there are plenty more vegan eats to be found in Copenhagen, here are some of the very best places to go for vegan food when you visit.
Astrid och Aporna Spiseri
For a quick and tasty vegan burger in Copenhagen, don’t miss this tiny place with just a few seats. With just a few options for different kinds of patties, the variations are actually quite wide considering all the different cheeses and toppings you can order as well as the sauces you can help yourself to.
Greenburger
Another fully vegan burger place, this bright, lively fast food restaurant is a great place to get a good value, quick, filling vegan meal in Copenhagen. The patties are thick and generous, the bread perfectly soft and chewy and the toppings are exactly what you’re hoping for.
Botaniq
With a minimalist interior and an interesting array of salads, this is a delightful place to come for a light, healthy lunch or early dinner. There is a warm dish too, that changes daily plus a handful of cakes and freshly made juices on offer. The location, right between the Botanical Gardens and the Ørstedsparken, makes it the perfect place to drop by between rounds of sightseeing through the city.
simpleRAW
This stunning fully raw vegan restaurant prepares some amazingly inventive dishes entirely plants not heated above 42C. The raw avocado and carrot maki in rice paper are fresh and flavourful and they do several excellent raw vegan versions of the Danish classic: smørrebrød, an open faced sandwich with innovative toppings such as mushroom pâté, cashew parsley spread and mung bean burgers. The perfect place for something a bit special.
Video Video
A fully organic vegan café and cocktail bar, this place serves a range of video game inspired burgers, sandwiches, salads and more amongst a mixed aesthetic of 80s and 90s gaming paraphernalia. Clearly aimed at Generation Y and early Millennials, the nostalgia factor is strong here: there’s a pinball machine and other arcade games as well as several retro games consoles you can play with while you wait for your food.
Kalaset
A restaurant with something for everyone, this hip place with mismatched furniture and a cute aesthetic has several vegan options which are all clearly marked on their menu. The enormous chickpea burger with roast potatoes is a must and will fill you up after a hard day’s sightseeing!
Café Ñ
Serving a range of healthy mixed salad plates, burgers and other comfort foods, this small, cozy place is ideal for getting out of some of the more touristy areas of the city. Everything is vegetarian, but most are vegan despite the fact that these are not clearly marked on the menu, so be sure to check with the friendly staff. The real reason to come here though, is for the vegan pastries: they are definitely worth the trip!
