Amsterdam in Spring: Top 5 activities to do!
Amsterdam is always worth of a visit. But if you can, you should definitely go in spring. Think: long days, beautiful sunsets, green trees, boat rides, smell of flowers, romantic walks next to the canals…
Travel blogger Gesa from Lilies Diary will show which are the top 5 things to do in Amsterdam in spring.
#1 Visit vibrant tulip fields
Let’s start with a trip to the countryside. Not even an hour away from our MEININGER Hotels in Amsterdam, you can find the Bollenstreek, the region of Holland famous for its tulip fields. From end of March till end of May, you can see thousands of tulips in bloom! Best way to explore the fields? Walk trough them and soak up the smells and colors!
If you like cycling, there are also many interesting routes around the Bollenstreek. For example a bike trip around the dunes at Noordwijk!
#2 Take a canal cruise
The best possible way to experience Amsterdam is from the boat! In spring, when Amsterdam is in a fully bloom, canals are full of locals floating on their boats, or just sunbathing on their houseboats terraces! So, jump on a boat and take a cruise.

#3 Eat Ice cream
Warm weather means, time for ice cream! The first ice cream of the year is taken very seriously here. That’s why you should celebrate it properly when in Amsterdam – at IJscuypje. Over 40 different kinds of ice cream and sorbets are waiting for you, with excellent choice of vegan and non dairy options too. You can visit IJscuypje in a cool neighborhood Oude Pijp or stylish 9 Straatjes area. Btw, ijs is Dutch for ice cream.
#4 Go for a picnic in the Vondelpark
Park season time! Finally you can enjoy long walks in the parks, sit on a bench and read a book or have a picnic! Springtime in Amsterdam can’t go without a picnic in the Vondelpark! The Vondelpark is Amsterdam’s main park, known as the city’s “green lung”. There are often free live performances, concerts, or sport events.
#5 Let’s go to the beach
Sand, sea air, sun, it’s the beach time! Beach at Noordwijk is located approximately 40 km away from Amsterdam Centraal. Travelling by car, it takes around 30 minutes to get there from Amsterdam, and with public transport 90 minutes. To reach beach at Amsterdam Noord is even quicker! It is located on the opposite side of the port and can be reached within 5-15 minutes by ferry.
