The new futuristic funicular takes your straight from Innsbruck city centre to the Hungerburg station. From there the Nordkette cable car continues up to Seegrube, that is more than 2,200m high and offers a breathtaking view of the town and the Alps.

#2 Highest located zoo in Europe

Alpenzoo Innsbruck is situated in the Schloss Weiherburg from the 15th century. The zoo is well known for its collection of mountain animals from the Alpine regions, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. Innsbruck Alpenzoo’s mission is to find endangered species living in the wild, rear them in the zoo, and then set them free again into the Alps.

Innsbruck has hosted the first Winter Youth Olympics in 2012, Winter Paralympics in 1984 and 1988 and Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976.

#4 Bergisel ski jump, an architectural masterpiece

The modern Bergisel ski jump won the Austrian State Prize for architecture in 2002. The ramp is 98 meters long and the landing slope 37° steep in places. It’ also open to the visitors, you can take a lift to the viewing terrace and 50 m high tower overlooking the Bergisel ski jump, or walk the 455 stairs to the top.

#5 Golden roof, the star of the old town

The Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is considered the city’s most famous symbol. It was completed in 1500, the roof was decorated with 2,657 fire-gilded copper tiles for Emperor Maximilian to mark his wedding to Bianca Maria Sforza. The emperor and his wife used the balcony to observe events that took place in the square below.

#6 The world famous crystal jewelry brand comes from the area of Innsbruck

A small town Watten, located 17 km from Innsbruck, is a hometown of the world-famous jewelry brand Swarovski, a crystal glass company. Make sure to visit shiny Swarovski Kristallwelten (The Swarovski Crystal Worlds), attraction created by André Heller for the crystal glass manufacturer Swarovski, consisting of a park, art museum, retail area, and restaurant.
