M: First 3 associations with Zurich city:
KID: Enjoyable, exclusive and clean.
M: What was the main inspiration for the MEININGER Hotel Zürich Greencity design?
KID: Together with MEININGER we established the Theme of DADA (as in: The Art Movement) for the Hotel. More specifically, we focused on the “Collage” as the main design component and used this as a key element in different situations. To achieve this, we mixed natural looks with accentuated technical elements and a liberal use of colorful splashes to an interwoven picture. As a nod to the general theme of “Green City”, reused and repurposed objects were introduced into the design, adding another layer to the collage.
M: Describe the hotel in Zurich in 3 words:
KID: Livable, with beautiful views, sustainable.
M: Which is your favorite part of the hotel in Zurich?
KID: Probably the extensive bar with the labyrinth of pipes on top, which still reminds me of that ubiquitous Windows95 screensaver.
M: What is the best thing about this new MEININGER hotel?
KID: The parting wall/curtains with the enormous and colorful portraits of children. The combination of functionality and playfulness in addition to the bold statement and color capture the essence of our design quite well.
