New hotel building, directly at the trade fair
Major events such as the Mobile World Congress or the Sónar music festival attract thousands of people each year to the Fira de Barcelona exhibition center, located opposite the newly planned MEININGER Hotel at Carrer de la Botanica 41. Construction has already begun, with completion planned for 2027. In line with the expected trade fair audience, the room layout in the new hotel has been adjusted: the focus is on double rooms (also available for single occupancy). However, there will also be triple and quadruple rooms. “The excellent location right at the trade fair will delight business travelers. With our range of multi-bed rooms, we also provide ample space for families, backpackers, festival-goers, or sports event visitors. The latter will appreciate the excellent connection to the stadium,” said Nicolas Capelle, Vice President Development & Asset Management at MEININGER Hotels, regarding the room layout. Covering over 6,000 square meters, a total of 162 rooms with 552 beds and 30 parking spaces will be created.
Location as an important decision criterion
The MEININGER Hotel Barcelona is being built directly opposite the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, one of the largest trade fair organizations in Europe, which hosts over 150 trade fairs, congresses, and other events each year. True to MEININGER's motto "Step Out and Explore”, the decision for this location was not only due to its proximity to the trade fair but also its excellent public transport connections. The airport can be reached in 22 minutes, the football stadium in twelve minutes, and the center of Barcelona, including the famous La Rambla and the impressive Sagrada Familia, in under 30 minutes.
MEININGER and Barcelona - a perfect fit
Barcelona is the economic, cultural, and administrative capital of Catalonia. It is famous for its modern architecture, whimsical Gaudi buildings, vibrant cultural scene, renowned museums, festivals, and concerts. This makes Barcelona the perfect destination for all explorers, whether traveling solo, with family, or in a group of friends. Additionally, Barcelona is an open and tolerant city—a value that MEININGER deeply cherishes. "MEININGER opens its doors with open arms to all people, guest groups, and communities," emphasizes Thomas Hagemann, Chief Operating Officer at MEININGER Hotels, adding, "MEININGER firmly stands for equality and the inalienable right to live our own identity and love whom we choose. We are proud to advance diversity and inclusion in the hotel industry by ensuring acceptance and accessibility for all, and by providing internal training to our staff, such as inclusive language training.
MEININGER pursues a sustainable expansion strategy
"We are continuing to expand our portfolio across Europe. In addition to the new opening in Barcelona, we are currently planning a property in Edinburgh, Scotland, which will mark our entry into the United Kingdom market. This will allow us to tap into new markets in the coming years," explains Nicolas Capelle, detailing the expansion strategy that focuses on sustainable growth rather than mass openings.
