MEININGER Hotel Berlin Mitte “Humboldthaus” – Redesign and new bar concept with star comedian Felix Lobrecht
MEININGER Hotels is investing in its Berlin Mitte location: In addition to the upcoming renovation of all public areas and rooms at the end of the year, extensive work will also be carried out in the hotel's own bar, including the event cellar. The latter is currently being remodelled and has now found a new tenant: the famous comedian Felix Lobrecht, known for his stand-up comedy shows and as co-host of the successful podcast "Gemischtes Hack". In close cooperation with the MEININGER Hotel Berlin Mitte, the high-quality and urban "Downstairs Comedy Club", which is equipped to the highest technical standards, has already been created in recent weeks as part of the refurbishment work. The first shows have started successfully, with six shows a week.
"We are very much looking forward to working with MEININGER Hotels. Our love for stand-up comedy, the wide reach and expertise that we bring with us, combined with the excellent gastronomic infrastructure of the MEININGER Hotel Berlin Mitte, provide the best conditions for a comedy club that will sustainably transform the scene and Berlin's cultural offerings," says Felix Lobrecht. Thomas Hagemann, COO of MEININGER Hotels, also sees many benefits in the collaboration: “Felix Lobrecht represents fun, entertainment, and authenticity – just like MEININGER Hotels. Our slogan ‘Step Out and Explore’ invites our guests to explore the city, attend events, and enjoy unforgettable experiences, such as visiting an outstanding comedy show. We target the same audience, creating synergies for both sides.”
Further refurbishments and new concept
The new design motto for the hotel in Berlin Mitte, created by Hamburg architects Ratschko, is "old Berlin meets new Berlin", inspired by the history of the house where Alexander von Humboldt lived from 1843 until his death. Design elements from nature serve as a model for the materials used and many loving details make reference to the famous previous owner of the building on Oranienburger Strasse. Opening up the areas of the bar, reception, lobby, and breakfast room creates an open and spacious atmosphere in the entrance area. The bar's name, which will also be open to the public, will be announced shortly. "After the redesign, all guests of the bar and the ‘Downstairs Comedy Club’ will also be in direct contact with the MEININGER Hotel Berlin Mitte, which should further increase our brand awareness due to the rising number of visitors," says Thomas Hagemann, explaining the benefits for the brand. At the same time, the renovation will contribute to the brand's goal of guaranteeing a MEININGER quality standard in all properties that guests can rely on. In typical MEININGER style, the redesign of the hotel in Berlin Mitte pays attention to the local flair in design that characterises all MEININGER hotels.
